New Clinic Guidelines

Please read the following information to obtain a general understanding of what the 2E2 Organ and Eye Bank is expecting from a local Lions club prior to establishment of an adult vision clinic.

2E2 Lions Organ & Eye Bank Goals –

1.                   The LOEB has taken the position that our entity is working towards establishing permanent vision clinics throughout the district rather than temporary/mobile/dispensing only vision clinics.

2.                   Our goal is to address the vision needs of adults between the ages of 18-65.

3.                   We are striving to deliver professional vision services throughout the district on a consistent basis.

4.                   We are trying to deliver a duplicable vision plan regarding vision clinics that can be utilized by the whole district in the future.

5.                   We want to increase Lion involvement throughout the district in addressing the problem of adult vision needs.

We are trying to create a permanent solution rather than band-aid effects. Hopefully, these goals are consistent with your goals.

Geography – We are looking for locations that are central to a zone.  This is not necessary but would be more favorable.

People - People make a difference and create longevity for a clinic.  Equipment does not make a long term change and has a tendency to stay idle unless utilized.  We are currently working with a model of volunteer involvement that asks for –

1.                   Zone chair – current and future if possible

2.                   Club Sponsorship – we request that there be a host club.

a.       Minimum of two (2) volunteers from this club

3.                   Leo Club involvement

4.                   A “Director” – someone who will be your key person for day to day activities

5.                   A “Recruiter Volunteer” – someone to liaison with your area clubs to increase involvement in the vision clinic.

Optician Involvement – The LOEB has established a national account with Wal-Mart to help with the delivery of glasses.

1.                   Obtain the name of the vision center manager at the closest Wal-Mart Super Center.  This will allow us to establish the optical delivery for your clinic.

Optometrists – We will be looking for permanent doctors rather than “volunteers”.

1.                   Do you have any that are interested in participating?

2.                   The LOEB Professional Advisory Board will assist your group as needed.

Equipment – An area that is sometimes the easiest to fill and sometimes the hardest.

1.                   Anticipate a budget of $15,000 to $25,000 for equipment.  Again these numbers are always open to variation due to donations, grants, matching gifts, club involvement, and relationships with vendors, etc.

We hope the above information will give you an idea of where to start.
