The District 2-E2 Lions Organ & Eye Bank registered with the State of Texas in August, 1970. Originally Lions and Funeral Directors harvested the corneas from donors, but as the FDA and EBBA (Eye Bank Association of America) regulations improved it became a necessity to have a paid, trained staff in order to reduce legal liability. In March, 2000 this function was outsource to Transplant Services in Dallas who had a working relationship with Districts 2-X1 and 2-E1 that border on the east and west side of our District. This gave the ability to combine resources, service a larger area, and lower the recipient cost. it also afforded the opportunity to heighten donor awareness to the need for organs, bones, and other tissue that was in constant and desperate need. District 2-X2 has now joined this group. |
